The heliport sports a terminal building, four hangars and nine parking bays, along with a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility.

New Delhi, Feb 28: Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju inaugurated the country's first integrated heliport at Rohini locality in north west Delhi. MoS Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha was also present on the occasion.

The country's first heliport has been built by state-owned chopper operator Pawan Hans. The heliport sports a terminal building, four hangars and nine parking bays, along with a maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility.

The first flyers

The first flyers from Rohini heliport were five young boys and girls from CRY who got Delhi city joyride.

Inauguration

Ashok Gajapathi Raju inaugurated the country's first integrated heliport at Rohini locality in north west Delhi. He said exciting times were ahead for helicopter flying in Delhi.

Purposes it will be used for

It will be used to tackle medical emergencies, for disaster management, to keep a watch on law and order situation and for joyrides. It will also be used for the skill development of pilots and engineers.

Boon for Delhi

The trial sorties from the heliport were carried on for a year by Pawan Hans. The heliport will reduce congestion at the Delhi Airport, which presently handles about 40 to 50 arrivals and departures of helicopters.

What does Rohini heliport boast of

It has a maintenance, repair and overhaul facility not only for the upkeep of Pawan Hans fleet but als0 for third-party.
