IMD Weather Update: India Prepares For Shifting Weather Patterns; Cold Wave, Rain And Snow Across India
IMD Weather Update: India is set to experience a mix of weather phenomena due to a fresh western disturbance affecting various parts of the country on the 11th and 12th of January. This disturbance will bring about a combination of isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall and snowfall across the Western Himalayan region. Furthermore, the plains of Northwest India alongside adjoining Central India are also slated to receive similar weather patterns during this timeframe.
In particular, states such as Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan are expected to witness thunderstorms on the 11th, extending to Uttarakhand on both the 11th and 12th. Additionally, Rajasthan is forecasted to experience isolated hailstorms on the 11th, with similar conditions anticipated for South Haryana and Rajasthan.

The southern parts of India are not to be left untouched by weather changes. The IMD has identified a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and North Tamil Nadu, which will likely induce rainfall across the states on the 11th and 12th of January. Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are poised for light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on these days.
Furthermore, the northeastern states are bracing for light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on the 13th of January, indicating a widespread impact of the weather disturbance across the country.
Temperature Fluctuations Across India
The weather update also includes significant temperature forecasts for various regions. Northwest India is expected to see a decrease in minimum temperatures by approximately 2°C over the next three days. Conversely, Central India is anticipated to experience a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-4℃ in the coming two days. Maharashtra and Gujarat are also expected to see a rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3℃ in the next 24 hours. However, no significant change is forecasted for East India's minimum temperatures in the next 24 hours.
Visibility and Cold Wave Conditions
Visibility is set to be affected due to dense to very dense fog conditions during night and early morning hours in several states, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh, until the 11th of January. Bihar, North Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will also experience similar foggy conditions up to the 11th, with Rajasthan facing it on the 12th and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on the 11th and 12th.
