IMD Warns Of Cyclonic Circulation And Heavy Rainfall In Tamil Nadu And Andhra Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has alerted the public to the formation of a cyclonic circulation near Sumatra's coast, extending into the South Andaman Sea. This weather pattern is on track to intensify into a depression over the central areas of the south Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.

Such developments are critical as they often lead to significant meteorological events, including heavy rainfall, which is anticipated to affect the southern Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh shortly.

IMD Warns Of Cyclonic Circulation

Amid these developments, the IMD has also identified another cyclonic circulation hovering over the Comorin area and its neighboring regions at lower atmospheric levels. This was highlighted in a report by Hindustan Times, citing the weather agency. These circulations are instrumental in predicting weather changes, including the possibility of heavy rainfall in certain areas.

Heavy showers have already made their mark in Tamil Nadu, resulting in substantial flooding across various urban locales. Thoothukudi, for instance, witnessed significant waterlogging in areas such as Rajagopal Nagar, Pushpa Nagar, Raju Nagar, Postal Telegram Colony, and more. The northeastern monsoon, which heralded its arrival in October, has been the main culprit behind the widespread rainfall engulfing the northern and delta regions of Tamil Nadu, including major cities like Chennai, Chengalpattu, and Kanchipuram.

The delta districts, including Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Mayiladuthurai, have not been spared, facing severe impacts with roads submerged and disruptions to everyday activities. The IMD projects that this pattern of rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, will persist across various regions in the days ahead.

On a broader scale, the forecast for November 25 predicts isolated thunderstorms and lightning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Karaikal. Light to moderate rainfall is expected across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands throughout the week, providing a slight respite from the severe weather conditions affecting the mainland. Additionally, the northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, are set to receive light to moderate rainfall on November 22.

In a more specific prediction, the IMD anticipates isolated, very heavy rainfall in south Tamil Nadu on November 26. This heavy downpour is also expected to hit Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on November 26 and 27, indicating a need for preparedness in these regions.

The IMD's forecasts and alerts serve as vital information for residents and authorities in the affected areas, enabling them to take necessary precautions against potential weather-induced adversities.
