IIT Delhi issues diktat for girl students to wear “fully cover decent western dresses”

New Delhi, April 18: The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi on Tuesday issued a regressive diktat for its girl students, ahead of the 13thedition of Open House which be held on Thursday.
A notice issued says that girls should wear "fully covered decent western dresses" for the one-day event.
A notice dated April 16, sent by the warden and addressed to residents say:
"The House Day is on April 20th, 2017. The invitation cards for guests will be given at caretaker office during office hours. Further, all the residents are requested to wear a fully cover decent western or Indian dresses on House Day."
Meanwhile, the Dean of the prestigious institute said that he has no knowledge of any such notice and directed immediate removal of the notice.
However, the official website of the IIT Delhi says that the Open House event is on April 22nd.
"For the thirteenth consecutive year Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Delhi) is all set to exhibit an extensive collection of innovative research and product development projects at its annual open house, Open House 2017", the IIT Delhi website said.
"Scheduled on Saturday April 22nd in the premises of IIT Delhi, Open House 2017 will be a one - day event dedicated to provide an insight into path-breaking research work, student projects and the numerous advanced facilities and laboratories available in IIT Delhi", it added.
Continuing the tradition of last ten years, this year too, Open House promises to be a real treat to the eyes of the connoisseurs by presenting finest of the projects to technology enthusiasts, students and colleagues from other technical Institutes, school children, industries and general public.
