IAF Female Officer Alleges Rape Charges On Wing Commander; FIR Registered

A woman Flying Officer from the Indian Air Force has accused a Wing Commander of rape, leading to an FIR being filed at Budgam police station in central Kashmir. Both officers are currently stationed in Srinagar. "After the complaint, the FIR under 'relevant sections of the law' was filed at Budgam police station on Saturday," a senior police officer told PTI.

According to officials, the Air Force Station in Srinagar was approached by local Budgam police regarding the case. "We are aware of the case. The Air Force Station in Srinagar was approached by the local Budgam police station on the subject. We are fully cooperating towards this case," a senior IAF official was quoted by PTI as saying.

Allegations and Incident Details

The woman officer alleged that she had been facing harassment, sexual assault, and mental torture for two years. During a New Year party at the officer's mess on December 31, she claimed that the Wing Commander asked if she received a gift. Upon her denial, he allegedly took her to his room under the pretext of giving her gifts.

In her complaint, she stated that once inside his room, he forced her into oral sex and molested her. She resisted and managed to push him away before running out. The next day at work, he reportedly behaved as if nothing had happened.

Initial Investigation and Response

The victim mentioned that two other women officers advised her to file a complaint. A media report highlighted that a Colonel-rank officer was assigned to investigate but made both parties sit together for statement recording. The woman objected to this setup, feeling it was inappropriate.

The investigation was later closed, which she believed was an attempt to cover up administrative errors. HT could not independently verify these details.

An FIR has been registered against the Wing Commander following these allegations. The case is currently under investigation by local authorities with full cooperation from the Air Force Station in Srinagar.

The incident has brought attention to issues of harassment within military ranks and raised questions about how such cases are handled internally.
