'I Was Threatened': Swati Maliwal Quits AAP, Joins BJP, While Leveling Serious Allegations Against Kejriwal

In a major political development, Swati Maliwal has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying her decision was voluntary and based on her belief in the leadership of Narendra Modi.

Her move comes shortly after several leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) resigned and switched sides.

A Big Exit from AAP

Swati Maliwal was among seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs who recently left the party. Others included Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Sandeep Pathak, Harbhajan Singh, Vikram Singh Sahney, and Rajinder Gupta.

This mass exit has been seen as a significant setback for AAP, raising questions about internal issues within the party. The political shift follows recent tensions, especially after Raghav Chadha was removed from a key leadership role in the Rajya Sabha.

Maliwal Explains Her Decision

Speaking about her decision, Maliwal said she had been associated with Arvind Kejriwal and AAP since 2006. However, she claimed that her relationship with the party leadership had deteriorated over time.

She made serious allegations, stating that she faced threats and pressure when she raised concerns about an incident involving her. According to Maliwal, she was asked to withdraw a complaint she had filed, which led to a breakdown of trust.

Strong Criticism of Kejriwal

Maliwal did not hold back in criticising Arvind Kejriwal. She accused him of being "anti-women" and said she was not given opportunities to speak in Parliament for two years.

She also raised concerns about AAP's functioning in Punjab, alleging that the party exercises excessive control over the state government. She further claimed that issues like illegal sand mining and drug abuse have increased, and that leaders who speak out face action.

Praise for PM Modi's Leadership

While explaining her move to BJP, Maliwal praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling him one of the most popular leaders globally. She highlighted decisions related to national security, action against Naxalism, and the introduction of the women's reservation bill.

She also acknowledged the role of Amit Shah in shaping key policies at the national level.

Appeal to Join BJP

Maliwal said her decision to join BJP was driven by her belief in its leadership and vision. She encouraged those who want to contribute to "constructive politics" to consider joining the party.
