I’m not Savarkar, won’t apologise: Rahul on disqualification

In the first press conference since his disqualification as a Lok Sabha member, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi trained his guns on the alleged relationship between the BJP and industrialist Gautam Adani. He claimed his disqualification, targetted attack over his remarks, the portrayal of him as anti-OBC were all being done to distract people from Adani issue.

On the question of apologizing for his remarks on the Prime Minister, Rahul remarked that his name is 'not Savarkar but Gandhi.

''I have said many times before that democracy is being attacked in the country. We are seeing examples of this each day. I asked questions in the Parliament regarding the relationship between PM Modi and Adani,'' he said.

"I am starting from the foundation. I asked only one question. Adani ji has the infrastructure business but the money is not his. I only wanted to know whose money is this Rs 20,000 crore. I took information from media reports. The relationship between Narendra Modi and Adani is not new. It started from the time when Narendra Modi was the chief minister of Gujarat. I showed them the photo of Narendra Modi sitting on the aeroplane. My speech got expunged. I wrote a detailed letter to the Speaker," Rahul Gandhi said.

Rahul said that this 'whole drama' was orchestrated to defend the Prime Minister from one simple question. "Who's Rs 20,000 crore went to Adani's shell companies? I am not scared of these threats, disqualifications, or prison sentences," he said.

''I only speak the truth, it is my work and I will keep doing it even if I get disqualified or get arrested. This country has given me everything and that is why I do this," he remarked.

The Congress leader stated that the PM is 'scared' of his next speech on Adani. "I have seen it in his eyes. That is why, first the distraction and then the disqualification," he said.
