Hyderabad Gastroenterologist D. Nageshwar Reddy to Receive Padma Vibhushan

Renowned Hyderabad-based gastroenterologist Dr D. Nageshwar Reddy has been selected for the Padma Vibhushan in 2025, one of India's highest civilian honours, in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the field of medicine. He is among seven distinguished individuals chosen for the award this year.

The Padma Vibhushan is conferred for "exceptional and distinguished service" across diverse fields such as public affairs, social work, art and healthcare. The list of awardees is announced on Republic Day, while the formal presentation takes place at Rashtrapati Bhavan, usually in March or April, where the President of India confers the honours.

Dr Reddy currently serves as the Chairman of AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad, where he has played a leading role in advancing gastroenterology and patient care over several decades. His selection for the Padma Vibhushan marks the highest point in a long journey of national recognition. He was earlier awarded the Padma Shri in 2002, followed by the Padma Bhushan in 2016, acknowledging his growing impact on India's healthcare system.

Reacting to the honour, Dr Reddy described it as a reflection of everyday clinical practice and the faith patients place in doctors. He said compassionate care and empathy have always guided his work, adding that healthcare goes beyond treatment and is ultimately about serving humanity with dignity.

The Padma Vibhushan further underlines Dr Reddy's enduring legacy in Indian medicine, highlighting the importance of medical leadership and service in public life. His recognition brings renewed attention to the role of doctors who combine clinical excellence with compassion and long-term commitment to patient care.
