How lawyer Harish Salve, who once had fought for Jayalalithaa, saved Salman Khan from going to jail

Mumbai, May 6: After much suspense and anxiety, Salman Khan's fans finally received a good news on Wednesday, May 6. The actor is not going to jail, instead he will head for his home in Mumbai.

The Bollywood superstar, who was sentenced five years of imprisonment as he was found guilty in the 2002 hit-and-run case, will not go to jail Arthur Road jail today.

Senior lawyer Harish Salve, who once had argued for former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, used his magic wand and saved the actor from spending nights in the jail.

According to reports, Salve appeared in the Bombay High Court on 10 minutes notice given to him. While arguing for Salman Khan, Salve said, "Cannot put someone in jail without the order. Please give time till day after. We have only received the operative part of the order."

Finally, the high court granted the actor 2-day interim bail. The court will hear the case once again on till Friday, May 8. Earlier Public prosecutor Pradeep Dhar too said, "We have not yet received a copy of the judgment."

The 49-year-old actor was convicted of culpable homicide for ramming a roadside bakery with his Toyota Land Cruiser and, in the process, killing one person and wounding four others sleeping on the pavement outside.

He was also pronounced guilty of driving without a licence for which he received two months jail term. The actor was also found guilty of driving under the influence of liquor. Salman, known for his macho onscreen avatar, was in tears when Judge Deshpande pronounced the verdict.
