Mumbai Police Summon Father-Son Duo Over Hoax Bomb Threats to International Flights

Authorities in Mumbai have issued a notice to a teenager, his father, and another individual from Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. They are required to participate in an investigation related to bomb threats made on social media against three flights. These threats were posted on Monday, affecting international flights departing from Mumbai.

Three flights received these threats, with one Air India flight bound for New York being diverted to New Delhi and rescheduled. The other two flights, operated by IndiGo, experienced significant delays. Despite the disruptions, no suspicious items were discovered on any of the aircraft, according to police officials.

Bomb Threats on Social Media

The bomb threats were communicated via a post on the micro-blogging platform X. The account responsible for the post is currently under verification by authorities. The two IndiGo flights targeted were headed to Muscat and Jeddah. Both planes underwent security checks in isolation bays before departure.

Rajnandgaon Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg stated that the threats were specifically directed at an Air India flight from Mumbai to New York and IndiGo flights from Mumbai to Muscat and Jeddah. Following this, local police and cyber cells collected electronic evidence linked to the case.

Investigation and Legal Action

Mumbai Police have filed a case against an unidentified individual and the X account used for the threats. A team from Mumbai Police traveled to Rajnandgaon on Monday to assist in the investigation. With support from Rajnandgaon Police, they issued a notice to a 17-year-old boy residing in Rajnandgaon city, his father, and the person whose X account was involved.

The individuals have been summoned for questioning in Mumbai as part of further legal proceedings. Authorities are working diligently to resolve this matter and ensure aviation safety remains uncompromised.
