Heavy Rain Triggers 7–8 km Traffic Jam in Gurugram

A spell of heavy rain on Monday threw Gurugram's traffic into chaos, with vehicles stuck in long snarls stretching nearly 7-8 kilometres. Commuters reported being stranded for over three hours as major roads and underpasses went under water.

City Struggles with Waterlogging

The downpour, which saw over 100 mm of rainfall recorded between 3 pm and 7 pm, left key stretches of the city submerged. Waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpasses made several routes impassable, further compounding traffic woes.

Commuters Face Hours-Long Delays

People returning home from work bore the brunt, with long queues of vehicles moving at a crawl. Many residents took to social media to highlight how even short distances took hours to cover.

Remote Work and Online Classes Announced

To prevent a repeat on Tuesday, the District Disaster Management Authority issued an advisory asking offices to allow employees to work from home and directing schools to shift to online classes. The Indian Meteorological Department has sounded an Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 2, 2025.

Officials said the steps are aimed at easing traffic congestion and ensuring public safety. Residents have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel and stay updated on weather conditions.
