Heatwave Alert: Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan Sweltering Over 40 Degrees, IMD Issues Warning

As the summer sets, according to the weather agencies, there has been a rise in temperatures, exceeding the 40-degree-Celsius mark. It was observed in Karnataka, Gujarat, and Rajasthan, on Wednesday.

A heatwave warning for the next two days was issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for these states.

The IMD indicated that heatwave conditions are likely in isolated pockets over North Interior Karnataka from March 27 to 29, in Saurashtra and Kutch in Gujarat from March 27 to 28, and in southwest Rajasthan on March 27, read the statement, reported PTI.

In its daily bulletin, a heatwave warning was issued by the IMD, stating that maximum temperatures are expected to rise by two to three degrees Celsius at isolated places over North and South Interior Karnataka in the next five days.

It was stated that currently, maximum temperatures are surpassing the 95th percentile of climatological value at a few pockets of south interior Karnataka adjoining north Kerala. This condition is likely to persist over extended areas of interior Karnataka on March 27th and 28th, as reported by Hindustan Times.

In terms of relief, the agency forecasted isolated light rainfall over Belagavi district, while dry weather is anticipated to prevail over the remaining parts of the state. The Bulletin noted that Raichur District recorded an average maximum temperature of 40.7 degrees Celsius, with 84 percent of the geographical area in the state witnessing maximum temperatures ranging from 36 to 42 degrees Celsius.

Some parts of Haveri, Vijayapura, Koppala, Davanagere, Kalaburagi, Bagalkote, and Raichur districts recorded maximum temperatures in the range of 41 to 43 degrees Celsius. Bengaluru's maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 35 to 36 degrees Celsius until Friday, as per media reports.

In response to the escalating temperatures, a heatwave advisory was issued by the Karnataka Health Ministry on Tuesday due to an increase in reported cases of sunstrokes and migraines. Meanwhile, Bengaluru city continued to grapple with its ongoing water crisis.
