Haryana To Host New Forensic Science Centre Of Excellence

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has proposed the establishment of a training institute within a new Centre of Excellence for forensic science in Haryana. This centre, spanning approximately 50 acres, will include facilities for training and laboratory testing. The central government will oversee its creation.

During the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Haryana government and the National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Amit Shah emphasised the importance of this initiative. He suggested to Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh that the centre should also include a hostel to facilitate training for police and judicial officers.Union Minister of Energy, Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, highlighted that the idea for this centre was conceived in Surajkund in 2022. He stated, "Earlier there was only one forensic science lab in the state. Now 4 more are operational. Now if the campus of National Forensic Science University is set up here, then the victims will get justice soon."

Amit Shah noted that this Centre of Excellence would significantly improve Haryana's criminal justice system. He said it would become a major training hub for North India. Congratulating Haryana's citizens, he praised the state government's decision to collaborate with NFSU to modernise the criminal justice system.Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh expressed optimism about the centre's benefits. He mentioned that delays in justice due to resource shortages would be mitigated with new technology. "Now with the new technology, we will be able to get justice to the victim soon," he said.

Expansion Plans for NFSU

The Union Cabinet recently approved a proposal for NFSU to expand its campuses from 9 states to 16 states. Vice Chancellor of NFSU, Dr. JM Vyas, stated that this centre would enhance Haryana's forensic capabilities and benefit the entire criminal justice system. He added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, NFSU is strengthening forensic capabilities in 92 countries.Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad explained that this world-class centre would be unique in providing state-of-the-art technology and training legal and investigating officers in forensic evidence handling. Haryana's Public Administration and Prosecution Department will collaborate with NFSU to establish this Centre of Excellence.Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Director General of Police Shatrujit Kapoor, Director General of Prosecution Sanjay Hooda, Director General of Hipa Chandra Lekha Mukherjee, and other dignitaries attended the event.The establishment of this centre marks a significant step forward for Haryana in enhancing its forensic science infrastructure. The collaboration with NFSU aims to expedite justice delivery and improve overall forensic capabilities in the region.
