Haryana Introduces Welfare Board For Religious Leaders With Comprehensive Benefits

In Haryana, religious leaders such as priests, imams, maulvis, granthis, monks, lamas, nuns, Jain sadhus, priestesses, and pastors will now receive comprehensive benefits including salaries.

This initiative ensures housing and medical benefits for them and their dependents. Additionally, scholarships, skill training, and grants will be provided for their children.

Welfare Board for Haryana s Religious Leaders

For the first time in Haryana, a Board dedicated to the welfare of religious professionals has been established to enhance their living standards. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will oversee this board. The Additional Chief Secretary of the Art and Culture Work Department, Umashankar, has issued orders for its formation.

The headquarters of this welfare board will be located in either Chandigarh or Panchkula. However, offices can be set up anywhere within the state to ensure accessibility. This move aims to provide structured support to those performing religious rituals across Haryana.

Governments in several states such as Delhi, Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana already offer monthly financial assistance to Muslim religious leaders. Haryana's new board is a step towards similar support for various religious professionals within the state.

Former Chief Minister Manohar Lal had announced the creation of this welfare board during the Parshuram Mahakumbh event in Karnal on December 11, 2022. This announcement marked a significant step towards institutional support for religious leaders in Haryana.

This initiative reflects a broader trend where state governments are recognising the need to support religious professionals financially and socially. By providing these benefits, Haryana aims to improve the quality of life for those dedicated to religious services.

The establishment of this board signifies a commitment to ensuring that those who serve in religious capacities receive adequate support and recognition. It is expected that this will lead to better living conditions and opportunities for their families as well.
