Haryana Government Announces Waiver Of Monthly Electricity Charges For Low Usage Consumers
The Haryana government has given relief to about 9.5 lakh electricity consumers. The government has decided to waive the monthly charges for consumers with up to 2 kilowatts of usage. The Haryana government charges a monthly fee of Rs 115 on a 1-kilowatt connection.
The Haryana government had announced this cut in the budget for the year 2024. Now, they have decided to implement this announcement. Electricity corporation officials said that the monthly fee will not be included in the next bill.

This decision comes after the Lok Sabha results did not meet the government's expectations. After four months, CM Nayab Singh Saini has implemented the big decision of former Haryana CM and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
During his tenure, former CM Manohar Lal had decided to impose a minimum monthly charge of Rs 115 on electricity consumers with a domestic connected load of up to 2 KW in rural and urban areas in tariff category one. It has now been implemented in Haryana.
Now, consumers will have to pay the bill only based on units used. The Chief Minister had announced this scheme during the announcement of relief to the poor in his 2024-25 budget proposal on 23rd February.
This decision by the state government will give relief of about Rs 180 crore to the poorest families in the state. Around 9.5 lakh poor families in the state will benefit from abolishing MMC.
An official associated with the state government said that this decision will be implemented from the next billing cycle. Consumers can get relief from a minimum of 2% to a maximum of 91% in their total electricity bill.
