Haryana Elections 2024: AAP Demands 10 Seats, Congress Offers 7

In a critical development for the Haryana Assembly elections scheduled for October 5, 2024, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, is pushing for a significant role in the upcoming polls.

AAP has requested 10 seats out of the 90 available, while the Congress party has offered only seven seats. Negotiations between the two parties are ongoing, with both sides working to reach a consensus.

AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has engaged in multiple rounds of discussions with Congress's senior leader KC Venugopal. The parties are expected to meet again soon to finalize their agreement. According to sources, AAP's demand includes one seat from each of the 10 Lok Sabha constituencies.

The Congress central election committee has already approved candidates for 66 of the 90 seats, reflecting the advanced stage of their preparations. AICC General Secretary Deepak Babaria highlighted that the alliance talks are still in the early stages, with several options being explored to finalize the seat-sharing arrangement.

In response to the ongoing negotiations, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has welcomed the news of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's interest in an alliance with AAP. Singh stressed that the primary objective for opposition parties is to defeat the BJP, and any final decision on the alliance will be subject to approval by AAP's national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, who is currently detained in connection with excise policy cases.

During a recent Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting, Rahul Gandhi reportedly expressed interest in partnering with AAP for the Haryana elections. However, there has been no definitive decision yet.

BJP leader Anil Vij criticized the alliance talks, suggesting that the Congress party is struggling to contest the Haryana elections independently and is therefore seeking an alliance with AAP. Vij's comments reflect a broader perception that Congress lacks the necessary strength to fight the elections on its own.

As the election date approaches, the resolution of these negotiations will be crucial in shaping the electoral landscape in Haryana.
