The 67-year-old is accused of conspiracy in a 11-year-old case, in which his supporters had opened fire on villagers in Rohtak, killing one person and injuring several others.

In 2014, situation turned ugly when police went to arrest self-styled 'godman' Satguru Rampal Maharaj's of Satlok Ashram in Hisar. The 'godman' Rampal was to appear before the High Court but he did not do so, with his counsel saying he was "unwell". Then the High Court issued a fresh non-bailable warrant against him and asked the authorities to present him.

The arrest had come after a tense standoff between thousands of his followers and the police. According to reports, the followers had acted as a human shield for Rampal.

Rampal ran the Satlok Ashram in Barwala in Haryana. Last Wednesday, he appeared in court for four FIRs 201, 426, 427 and 443. The court has reserved the verdict for FIRs 426 and 427. As per FIR number 426, Rampal has been charged with obstructing government officials in performing his duty. FIR 427 was registered against him for holding people hostage in his ashram. Rampal is currently lodged in Hisar jail in a sedition case.

The self-styled godman, since last four years, has evaded court appearances for 43 times. Now, he is facing a contempt case.
