Gujarat Assembly Celebrates PM Modi's Third Consecutive Lok Sabha Victory
The Gujarat assembly passed a resolution on Wednesday to congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his third consecutive victory in the Lok Sabha elections. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel introduced the government resolution on the first day of the monsoon session, which was approved by a majority voice vote despite opposition from the Congress party.

Patel expressed pride in Modi's achievement, stating, "On behalf of the entire Gujarat, I heartily congratulate Modi, the son of Gujarat, for becoming the Prime Minister of the world's largest democracy for the third consecutive term." He highlighted that it is remarkable for a humble party worker to become prime minister three times.
Modi's Leadership and Contributions
Patel praised Modi's leadership, noting that he is the first prime minister born after independence and has provided decisive leadership. He mentioned Modi's significant contributions as Gujarat's Chief Minister and Leader of the Assembly for nearly 15 years. The Vibrant Gujarat Summit, initiated by Modi, was credited with driving Gujarat's development and global competitiveness.
Patel also emphasised Modi's empathy for the poor and underprivileged, reflected in various pro-poor schemes introduced during his tenure as prime minister. He stated that a decade of Modi's leadership as PM is marked by legacy, development, and trust. "India became the world's fifth-largest economy because of Modi's efforts," Patel said.
Opposition's Criticism
Congress Legislature Party leader Amit Chavda criticised the resolution, arguing that Gujarat received nothing significant in the Union Budget compared to Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. Chavda listed unresolved issues such as fishermen from Gujarat in Pakistani jails, malnutrition among children, high school dropout rates, a slowdown in the diamond sector, and farmers' troubles.
Chavda also pointed out that despite repeated demands, Western Railways headquarters had not been shifted to Gujarat. "We cannot support this resolution because you have not mentioned anything about the issues concerning Gujarat," he added.
Financial Assistance Comparison
In response to Chavda's criticism, Patel highlighted the financial assistance received by Gujarat under different administrations. He noted that between 2010 and 2014, under UPA-2, Gujarat received Rs 30,555 crore. In contrast, under Modi's government from 2014 to 2024, Gujarat was sanctioned Rs 2,89,945 crore.
Patel concluded by expressing pride in India's achievements under Modi's leadership. "We feel proud that India has been able to achieve many important goals due to hard work, commitment, and transparency by Modi in the last two tenures as prime minister," he said.
