Gorakhpur tragedy: Uttar Pradesh govt suspends BRD Medical College principal

The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday suspended Baba Raghav Das (BRD) medical college principal with immediate effect for his negligence which led to the death of infants.

He said, ''High level probe to take place, headed by Principal Secretary. Will wait for report, action will be taken. Till then suspending principal.''

However, the principal said that he tendered his resignation prior to the suspension taking responsibility of death of innocent children.

Siddharth Nath Singh, Health Minister, maintained government's stand on the tragedy '' Children have not died due to disruption of gas supply.

He said that during CM Yogi Adityanath's visit to the BRD Medical College on July 9th and August 9th , but the issue of gas supply didn't come up in the meeting, though detailed discussion were held.

Earlier, the UP government said that stringent action will be taken against those found guilty in the high number of death of infants in Gorakhpur's state-run BRD Medical College.

"Whoever is found guilty in the tragic and painful incident at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur will certainly face stringent action," Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya told PTI in Lucknow on Saturday.
