Pink Booths Initiative in Ghaziabad Results in Crime Rate Decline
The introduction of 20 Pink Booths and an equal number of Pink mobile vehicles has led to a significant drop in crime rates in Ghaziabad, according to Commissioner of Police Ajay Kumar Mishra. The initiative, which began two years ago, has had a considerable impact on the district's crime statistics, Mishra stated.

Impact on Crime Rates
Mishra reported that crimes such as dowry deaths under Section 304B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) have decreased by 36% since the launch of these special police booths. Additionally, complaints related to women's harassment and dowry, including those under Sections 498A of IPC and 3/4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, have seen a reduction of up to 30%.
Each Pink Booth is staffed by female police officers to ensure that victims feel comfortable reporting grievances. The booths operate with one female sub-inspector, four head constables, and additional constables working in two shifts from 7 am to 10 pm. This setup aims to provide a safe environment for women to report crimes.
Reduction in Serious Crimes
There has also been a noticeable decline in rape and kidnapping cases. Mishra noted that incidents of rape have decreased by 24.5%, while kidnapping cases have dropped by 16.55%. Out of 2,666 reported cases, 622 have been successfully curtailed since the inception of the booths.
The Pink Booth initiative was inaugurated in 2022 by then Ghaziabad Lok Sabha MP V K Singh, who also flagged off the Pink mobile vehicles. This initiative followed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's establishment of an Anti-Romeo Squad for women's safety, which had also proven highly effective.
Mishra highlighted that each Pink Booth operates with a dedicated team to ensure effective functioning. The presence of female officers at these booths has made it easier for women to come forward and report crimes without hesitation.
The initiative's success is evident from the significant reduction in various crime categories. The decrease in dowry-related complaints and serious crimes like rape and kidnapping underscores the effectiveness of these measures.
The introduction of Pink Booths and mobile vehicles has not only reduced crime rates but also enhanced the sense of security among women in Ghaziabad. This initiative serves as a model for other regions aiming to improve women's safety.
The efforts put into this initiative reflect a commitment to creating a safer environment for women. The positive outcomes indicate that such measures can lead to substantial improvements in public safety.
The success of the Pink Booths and mobile vehicles highlights the importance of targeted initiatives in addressing specific issues. The reduction in crime rates demonstrates the potential impact of well-planned safety measures.
This initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring women's safety in Ghaziabad. The continued efforts and commitment to maintaining these measures will likely lead to further improvements in crime statistics.
The positive results from this initiative are encouraging and suggest that similar approaches could be beneficial in other areas facing similar challenges. The focus on women's safety remains a priority for the Ghaziabad police force.
The introduction of these measures has brought about a notable change in the district's crime landscape. The reduction in serious crimes is a testament to the effectiveness of the Pink Booths and mobile vehicles.
The success story of Ghaziabad's Pink Booths serves as an example for other regions looking to enhance women's safety through targeted initiatives. The continued focus on such measures will likely yield further positive outcomes.
The commitment shown by the Ghaziabad police force towards improving women's safety is commendable. The significant reduction in crime rates highlights the impact of dedicated efforts and well-implemented initiatives.
The positive changes brought about by this initiative underscore the importance of creating safe spaces for women to report crimes. The success achieved so far sets a precedent for future efforts aimed at enhancing public safety.
Ensuring women's safety remains a top priority for law enforcement agencies. The achievements seen through this initiative demonstrate that focused efforts can lead to meaningful improvements in crime prevention and public security.
