Ghaziabad ACP Office's Roof Collapses After Heavy Storm; 1 Policeman Dead
In a tragic incident in Ghaziabad's Ankur Vihar, a sub-inspector aged 58 lost his life when a severe storm accompanied by heavy rainfall caused the roof of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) office to collapse. This unfortunate event unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, claiming the life of Veerendra Mishra, who was serving as the personal assistant to the ACP. Officials, including Additional Police Commissioner Alok Priyadarshi, confirmed the incident. It was reported that Mishra was asleep in the office at the time of the collapse and was subsequently found buried beneath the rubble.
The loss of Sub-Inspector Virendra Kumar Mishra has deeply affected the police department. Ankur Vihar ACP Jay Kumar Singh expressed his sorrow, stating, "Today, on May 25, the office roof collapsed during the night due to storms and heavy rainfall. SI Virendra Mishra lost his life in the roof collapse accident. He was taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. He was from Itawah. His family, residing in Delhi, was informed and reached here. Further action is underway." This statement highlights the immediate efforts made to inform Mishra's family who live in Delhi and indicate the ongoing procedures following this tragic incident.

The incident came to light when police personnel arrived at the office in the morning and discovered Mishra trapped under the debris. They quickly acted to extract him and rush him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The news of his demise was shared with his family in the Etawah district, underscoring the swift actions taken by his colleagues and the police force to address the situation and support the bereaved family.
The night of May 25 witnessed severe weather conditions across Delhi-NCR and its neighboring regions, including Haryana's Jhajjar, where heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong gusty winds wreaked havoc following a 'red alert' issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The alert warned of severe thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-60 km per hour. Between 1:30 am and 3:00 am on May 25, these adverse weather conditions were reported over different parts of Delhi-NCR, leading to widespread waterlogging, traffic snarls, and disruptions in flight operations.
Additionally, the Himachal weather forecast by the IMD included a yellow alert for the following week, with flash floods causing damage to vehicles in Kullu, further illustrating the widespread impact of the severe weather conditions.
