Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Advocates for Increased Production of Green Fodder for Cattle
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasised the importance of encouraging farmers to cultivate green fodder for cattle. He provided several directives regarding the upkeep of cow shelters. During a meeting with Animal Husbandry Department officials, he suggested purchasing green fodder from farmers to supply these shelters.

Adityanath highlighted the need for warehouses to store straw and green fodder. He mentioned that crops like corn, sorghum, millet, and berseem can last for three to four months. This storage would ensure a steady supply for cow shelters.
Enhancing Cow Shelter Management
The chief minister instructed the installation of CCTVs at all cow shelters. Additionally, he recommended using radium strips around the necks of cattle in villages near roads for safety. These measures aim to improve the management and security of cow shelters.
Regular inspections of destitute cow shelters were also stressed by Adityanath. He directed the chief veterinary officer, sub-district magistrate, and block development officer to conduct these inspections frequently. This ensures that the shelters are well-maintained and meet necessary standards.
Support from Various Departments
Adityanath called for cooperation from urban and rural development departments to enhance shelter arrangements. He believes their involvement will significantly improve conditions at these facilities. Planting shady trees at the shelters was also recommended to provide comfort for the cows.
The chief minister noted that production should align with demand, ensuring farmers receive fair compensation. This approach is expected to motivate farmers to grow more green fodder, thereby boosting their income.
Adityanath also emphasised the need for caretakers at all destitute cow shelters. Their performance should be continuously monitored to maintain high standards of care for the animals.
By implementing these measures, Adityanath aims to improve both the welfare of cattle and the livelihoods of farmers in Uttar Pradesh. The focus on green fodder production and enhanced shelter management reflects a comprehensive approach to animal husbandry in the state.
