Expelled Tutor Karan Sangwan Accuses Unacademy Of Not Defending Him During Controversy

Former Unacademy tutor Karan Sangwan reiterated his stance on Saturday, standing by the statement that led to his dismissal from the ed-tech company. He clarified the context behind the controversy, emphasizing that he never urged students to vote for educated candidates on the Unacademy platform. He pointed out that the viral video segment was extracted from a session he conducted on his personal YouTube channel on August 12.

Expelled Tutor Karan Sangwan Accuses Unacademy Of Not Defending Him During Controversy

Sangwan expressed dissatisfaction with Unacademy's response, claiming that the platform failed to defend him against the allegations surrounding the video. He accused the platform of supporting those who misinterpreted the statement on social media as a political agenda. He also criticized individuals who subjected him to trolling on various social media platforms.

The termination from Unacademy resulted from Sangwan's appeal to his students to vote for educated candidates while discussing recent bills in Lok Sabha aimed at amending criminal laws. He lamented the devaluation of his hard work on criminal laws due to the controversy.

Sangwan recounted that he received his termination notice on August 17, citing an 'unsatisfactory' response to management. He clarified that his video statement wasn't politically inclined.

Sangwan further questioned Unacademy co-founder Roman Saini's 'Code of Conduct' declaration and alleged that the termination was due to external pressure.

In an earlier statement, Saini had explained that Sangwan's breach of the 'Code of Conduct' necessitated the separation. He stressed that Unacademy aims to provide learners with unbiased knowledge, and the classroom is not a platform for personal opinions.

"To ensure this, we have established a strict Code of Conduct for all educators. Our learners are our priority, and the classroom should offer unbiased learning. Unfortunately, we had to part ways with Karan Sangwan due to his violation of the Code of Conduct," Saini stated.
