Ex-CBI Officer Challenges Andhra's Family-Run Party Dominance with New Political Party

VV Lakshmi Narayana, a former IPS officer renowned for his role in the quid-pro-quo case involving YSR Congress chief and current CM, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, in 2012, has made a significant move into the political arena by establishing the Jai Bharat National Party. With aspirations to contest the assembly polls from Visakhapatnam North, Narayana is positioning his party as a fresh alternative to the family-dominated political landscape of Andhra Pradesh, currently led by the YSR Congress and TDP.

New Party to Challenge Andhra Politics

Narayana's vision for his party is clear: to echo the voices of the people and usher in an era of good governance, should they be elected. The party's manifesto focuses on wealth creation, employment generation, and welfare with minimal reliance on freebies. "The agenda is to provide good governance and a platform for the people," Narayana stated, emphasizing the need for a new political option in Andhra Pradesh.

The former additional DG rank officer did not hold back in criticizing the major political parties in the state for their handling of law and order, which he believes is crucial for attracting investments and creating job opportunities for the youth. He also highlighted the untapped potential in sectors like tourism and food processing, given Andhra Pradesh's extensive coastline and agricultural base.

On national politics, Narayana expressed skepticism about NDA's ambitious goal of securing more than 400 seats, drawing parallels with the India Shining campaign led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also voiced support for the construction of Ram Mandir and called for efforts towards achieving 'Ram Rajya' for better governance.

Addressing recent high-profile arrests, Narayana advocated for agencies like ED and CBI to be brought under Lok Pal's jurisdiction to ensure transparency and accountability. His priorities, if elected, include securing special category status for Andhra Pradesh, halting Steel Plant privatization, establishing a railway zone in Visakhapatnam, and resolving bifurcation issues.

The Jai Bharat National Party is contesting 15 Lok Sabha seats—10 in Andhra Pradesh and 5 in neighboring Telangana—and 76 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh. This comes after Narayana's unsuccessful bid in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Visakhapatnam on a Janasena ticket, which he later resigned from.

With elections to 175 Assembly seats and 25 Lok Sabha segments in Andhra Pradesh scheduled for May 13, Narayana's entry adds a new dimension to the state's political landscape. His emphasis on good governance, development, and accountability presents an alternative narrative to the electorate amidst the dominance of established political families.
