Elephant Kills Two Men in West Bengal

Compensation Announced

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each for the families of the two 60-year-old men who were killed in the attack. She also said that the government will repair the damaged houses.

Eyewitness Account

According to eyewitnesses, a group of people had gathered to see the carcass of the elephant’s calf when the mother elephant charged at them. Most of the people managed to flee, but the two elderly men were caught by the elephant and killed.

Forest Minister’s Statement

Forest Minister Jyotipriya Mallick said that the staff of the department were able to drive away the mother elephant from the spot. He also said that this is the first time in several months that an incident of elephant attack has been reported from Jhargram and nearby districts.

Forest Personnel Deployed

A 40-member forest personnel team has been deployed in the area to monitor the situation and prevent any further incidents.

The incident highlights the need for caution when visiting areas where elephants are known to be present. It is important to maintain a safe distance from elephants and to avoid disturbing them.
