Maharashtra & Haryana Assembly Election results: As it happened

While both the BJP and the Congress have parted ways with their respective alliances, it is time to see whether how badly or not it hurts. The results are the deciding factor of whether the alliances will be taken back or they should remain independent.
Counting of votes in 288-assembly seats Maharashtra has ended with BJP winning 123 seats, Shiv Sena-63, Congress-42, NCP-41, MNS-1 and Others-18 seats.
In Haryana, BJP won 47 seats, INLD-19 and Congress-15 in the 90-assembly seats.

8.45 pm: PM Narendra Modi leaves from BJP HQ after BJP Parliamentary Board meeting ends.
8.35 pm: Congress leader Ashok Chavan says, "Our weaknesses need to be tackled, winning and losing is a part of polls".
8.30 pm: In Haryana, Venkaiah Naidu and Dinesh Sharma will go as observers to decide who the CM will be, JP Nadda says.
"First we will pick who the CM will be in the 2 states and then see how we want to form the Govt", he says.
8.25 pm: "Rajnath Singh & I will go as observers to Maharashtra and decide who the CM will be" JP Nadda informs media-persons.
8.20 pm: BJP national general secretary J P Nadda briefs media and thank all the party workers.
8.05 pm: Sources say that the BJP Has appointed two observers-Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Union minister Venkaiah Naidu
8.00 pm: BJP's Parliamentary Board meeting ends.
7.50 pm: BJP Source says "Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray called PM Narendra Modi & Amit Shah to congratulate them on BJP's electoral victory."
7:14 pm: Final election results have been declared in Haryana. BJP -- 47, INLD -- 19, INC -- 15, HJC+ 2, IND 5, Others 2.
7:10 pm: BJP calls Uddhav Thackeray soon after his press conference in Mumbai where the Shiv Sena supremo claimed that he would consider BJP's proposal if the party comes forward to form alliance.
7:05 pm: No one would want to go with NCP after people have voted against them, says BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar.
6:33 pm: "If I take the proposal and they say no then? Therefore its better to wait. We will consider any proposal for a stable government," says Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray over BJP's possible proposal for making alliance in Maharashtra.
6:15 pm: Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated BJP party workers and supporters for the twin victory in Maharashtra and Haryana. The PM said, My gratitude to people of Maharashtra. We are committed to Maharashtra's progress and creating a Maharashtra the world will be proud of."
He also said, "Thanks to people of Haryana for giving us the opportunity to fulfil their dreams and to take Haryana's development journey to new heights."
6:11 pm: Bhupinder Singh Hooda resigns as Haryana Chief Minister.
6:00 pm: Narendra Modi, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley arrived for BJP's Parliamentary Board meeting in Delhi.
5:50 pm: BJP's top decision-makers, its parliamentary board, meeting now in Delhi to review election results in Maharashtra and Haryana.
5:15 pm: Let Congress do what they want to do. Their arrogance is the reason our alliance broke, says NCP leader Majeed Memon. He also said, "BJP is way ahead of all parties in Maharashtra, our decision to support them externally is in favor of people of Maharashtra."

4:15 pm: It is a victory of the people of Haryana and Maharashtra and of the thousands of BJP workers. It has been proved beyond doubt that people in India consider Narendra Modi their undisputed leader, asserted BJP President Amit Shah in Delhi.
4:00 pm: Results so far -- BJP won --62, Shiv Sena -- 37, Congress -- 29, NCP -- 18, MNS -- 1, Others -- 13 in Maharashtra.

3:43 pm: Maharashtra AAP leader Anjali Damani slammed BJP and its possible CM candidate Devendra Fadnavis. She criticised Fadnavis as he stated that his party would think about NCP's proposal of extending outside support to it. Damania recalled the moment when Modi had called NCP a "National Corrupt Party."
3:35 pm: Now, this is a big news. According to sources, NCP, which broke its 15-year-old alliance, is ready to extend outside support to BJP which is likely to form government in Maharashtra.
3:30 pm: I can only say that BJP will form the Govt in Maharashtra and CM will be from BJP, says Narendra Modi's close aide and possible CM candidate of BJP -- Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai.
3:15 pm: Captain Abhimanyu (BJP) is leading by 6,000 votes in 11th round of voting from constituency Narnaund (Haryana), is likely to win.
3:00 pm: BJP veteran LK Advani expressed his wish that BJP and Shiv Sena form government in Maharashtra. He also claimed, "I never wanted this alliance (Shiv Sena-BJP) to end, but still satisfied with the results. It would be better if they both come together and form the Govt."
