Election Commission asks AIADMK factions to stop using 'two leaves' symbol

AIADMK had split into two factions after the demise of former Tamil Nadu choef minister Jayalalitha.

The Election Commission of India on Friday issued notices to both factions of the AIADMK over usage of the frozen 'two leaves' symbol.

The EC asked for the AIADMK Amma faction led by Sasikala Natarajan and AIADMK Puratchi Talaivi Amma faction led by O Panneerselvam to remove the 'two leaves' symbol from all platforms including website, social media accounts etc.

Sasikala-Panneerselvam

The election commission has given both parties until April 8 to stop usage of the frozen symbol and file a compliance report. The Election Commission had asked Sasikala Natarajan camp to file a reply on Thursday over allegations of the AIADMK's original symbol being used on their social media accounts. In their reply, AIADMK Amma camp had alleged that Panneerselvam camp had also used the 'two leaves' symbol in their social media campaign.

The election commission that took note of the allegation has now sent notices to both parties to adhere to the interim order passed by the full bench of the election commission that had decided to freeze the 'two leaves' symbol after both factions staked claim to it.
