ED Cracks Down on Jal Jeevan Mission Money Laundering in Jharkhand
In an extensive operation targeting corruption, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a series of raids across Ranchi on Monday. These actions are part of a broader investigation into the misuse of funds within the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), a central government initiative designed to ensure every household has access to and adequate tap water. The mission has gained significant attention, especially with assembly elections looming in Jharkhand, highlighting the critical nature of this crackdown on alleged financial misconduct.

The focus of these searches encompasses over 20 locations, shedding light on the scale of the investigation into the alleged financial irregularities. Among those under scrutiny are properties associated with Manish Ranjan, an IAS officer, and a personal staffer of Mithilesh Kumar Thakur, the minister for drinking water and sanitation. The raids also targeted several government officials, contractors, and businessmen, indicating the ED's comprehensive approach to unearthing any corrupt practices linked to the Jal Jeevan Mission's implementation.
The ED's probe into the Jal Jeevan Mission underscores the agency's commitment to ensuring the integrity of government schemes aimed at public welfare. By investigating allegations of money laundering associated with the mission, the ED aims to safeguard the project's goal of providing every household in Jharkhand with reliable access to drinking water. This mission is particularly significant in the context of the upcoming assembly elections in the state, where the success and transparency of such schemes could influence voter sentiment.
