Delhi Weather Update: Dense Fog In Delhi-NCR Leads To Cancellation Of Flights And Trains

Delhi Weather Update: People of Delhi and national capital region witnessed dense fog on Wednesday morning that led to low visibility and impacted the lives of early-morning commuters. The dense fog slowed down the speed of the national capital as roads were jam packed.

To avoid any misshapening, authorities issued advisories for the public as disruptions in transportation services may occur. According to news agency ANI, more than 50 flights have been delayed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport due to a thick layer of fog.

An official reported that five flights have been diverted from Delhi to nearby airports today morning between 9:30 PM Tuesday to 7:00 am on Wednesday because of dense fog. Out of five diverted flights, three were moved to Jaipur and one each to Ahmedabad and Mumbai, the official added.

Following the disruption in flight operations and passengers' inconvenience, Delhi Airports shared an advisory that reads, "While landing and takeoffs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted."

    Similarly, train services have also been impacted due to dense fog. Many trains are running late, diverted, or have been canceled going via Delhi's Anand Vihar Railway Station.

    Head of Regional Meteorological Centre, Delhi, Dr Kuldeep Srivastava told the media that a yellow alert has been issued in Delhi-NCR after a thick layer of fog covered Delhi and the bad weather is expected to continue till February 2, 2024.

    Dr Kuldeep Srivastava said, "We are expecting heavy rain and snowfall in the mountain regions (Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand) due to the western disturbance. The effect of this disturbance will be seen in plain areas like Haryana, Delhi NCR, and Uttar Pradesh."

    "A Yellow alert has been issued as a thick layer of fog may continue to cover Delhi and NCR till February 2," he added.
