More than 100 new coronavirus cases have been detected in Delhi amid a fresh resurgence of the virus, which has claimed millions of lives globally since 2020.

The national capital, Delhi, accounts for at least 104 of these, with 99 cases reported in the past week alone.

Kerala is witnessing the highest number of infections in this latest surge, with 430 active cases, followed by Maharashtra with 209.

Delhi ranks third, while Gujarat has 83 cases, Karnataka 47, Uttar Pradesh 15, and West Bengal 12.

At least four COVID-related deaths have been recorded in Maharashtra, two in Kerala, and one in Karnataka.

No active cases have been reported in several regions, including Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir.

India had previously seen a decline in COVID-19 cases following an extensive and free vaccination drive for all age groups, which allowed the country to move away from stringent containment measures.
