Delhi Police Officers Booked for Allegedly Extorting £19,000 from Student
Three police officers, including a sub-inspector, have been accused of extorting Rs 19 lakh from a college student who operates an online delivery service. The officers allegedly threatened to implicate the student in a false OTP fraud case, officials reported on Wednesday.

The incident reportedly occurred in March last year when the student was summoned to the Cyber Police Station in Hari Nagar, West Delhi, regarding a cheating case involving his delivery company. The student, accompanied by his brother and a friend, claimed that the officers threatened to arrest them in a fabricated OTP fraud case.
Allegations Against Policemen
The accused officers are Sub-inspector Brijesh Redhu and Head Constables Satish Kumar and Anil Yadav. They were stationed at the Cyber Police Station in Hari Nagar. The complaint states that the policemen not only threatened but also verbally abused the student and made vulgar remarks about a photograph of his girlfriend found on his phone.
The complainant further alleged that the policemen demanded Rs 25 lakh for their release. The next day, after the student's father filed a missing person report, the officers allegedly insisted on receiving the money. The student managed to gather approximately Rs 19.5 lakh using his mother’s and brother’s credit and debit cards.
Official Response and Investigation
A case has been registered under sections of extortion and the Prevention of Corruption Act against Sub-inspector Brijesh Redhu and Head Constables Satish Kumar and Anil Yadav. A vigilance inquiry was initiated following these allegations, leading to the registration of an FIR. An officer confirmed that further investigation is ongoing.
The police are also continuing their investigation into the original cheating case involving the student's online delivery company. This aspect remains under scrutiny as part of the broader probe into the incident.
The victim's complaint highlights severe misconduct by law enforcement officers, raising concerns about abuse of power within the police force. The allegations include physical assault, as the complainant stated that they were beaten for nearly half an hour by the accused officers.
The case underscores significant issues within police practices, particularly regarding corruption and misuse of authority. As investigations proceed, there is a focus on ensuring accountability and justice for those affected by such actions.
The ongoing investigation aims to uncover all details surrounding both the extortion claims and the initial cheating allegations against the student's company. Authorities are working to ensure that all involved parties are held accountable for their actions.
The situation has drawn attention to potential systemic issues within law enforcement agencies, prompting calls for stricter oversight and reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
