Delhi Police Constable and Another Man Killed in DTC Bus Accident Near Monastery Market

Two individuals, including a Delhi Police constable, were tragically killed by a DTC bus near Monastery Market. The driver lost control due to a technical fault, leading the bus to mount a pavement, hit a billboard pole, and then strike the two men before stopping at a road divider on Ring Road. The incident occurred on Monday night, according to police reports.

DTC Bus Accident Claims Lives in Delhi

The green DTC bus was operating from Sarai Kale Khan to Nand Nagari via ISBT when it developed a technical issue. At 10:38 pm, the Police Control Room received several calls about the bus veering off the road near Monastery Market. The accident caused significant damage and left two people critically injured, stated Deputy Commissioner of Police North, Raja Banthia.

Details of the Victims

Constable Victor, aged 27 and from Nagaland, was one of the victims. He was on night patrol duty and had left the police station at 9:45 pm. Riding a PCR motorcycle, he was struck by the bus and rushed to Parmanand Hospital in Civil Lines. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead upon arrival due to severe injuries to his head, neck, and face.

The other victim was Satyapriya, aged 23 from Jalaun in Uttar Pradesh. He was studying engineering in Kanpur and had come to Delhi from Gurugram for shopping. Like Victor, Satyapriya was also declared dead upon reaching the hospital.

Driver's Background and Arrest

Vinod Kumar, aged 57 and residing in Ghazipur, was driving the bus at the time of the accident. Employed as a driver with DTC since 2010, he did not suffer any injuries during the incident. Police have taken him into custody following the accident.

Victor's family and friends are demanding justice and strict action against Kumar. Victor is survived by his mother and sister in Nagaland. His friend Bimal described him as hardworking and humble, emphasising his responsibilities towards his family.

Bimal expressed concerns over DTC drivers often engaging in speeding and reckless driving. He highlighted Victor's skills in weapon handling and SWAT training. Another friend, Lotha, mentioned that both he and Victor joined Delhi Police in the same year and were training for CISF entry.

Lotha added that Victor lived alone in Civil Lines and aspired to buy a sports bike while supporting his family financially. The tragic loss has left Victor's friends and family seeking accountability for this unfortunate incident.
