Delhi Police Arrests Congress Youth Chief Uday Bhanu Chib in AI Impact Summit Protest Case

Delhi Police on Monday arrested Uday Bhanu Chib, national president of the Indian Youth Congress, in connection with last week's protest at the AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam.

Police said Chib's arrest is linked to a case involving Youth Congress workers who staged a protest inside the summit venue against the central government and the India-US trade deal. With his detention, the number of arrests in the case has gone up to five.

Earlier, Delhi Police had arrested Jitendra Yadav, who was picked up from Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, as part of the same investigation.

Youth Congress Protest at AI Summit

The case stems from an incident on Friday, February 20, when several Indian Youth Congress members entered the exhibition hall during the AI Impact Summit. The protesters removed their shirts and moved around the venue holding T-shirts carrying slogans critical of the Centre and opposing the India-US trade agreement.

Security personnel at Bharat Mandapam intervened and escorted the group out of the hall. They were later handed over to police teams for questioning. Officials said the incident raised security concerns as the summit was attended by international delegates and senior officials.

Political Response

The Indian Youth Congress defended the protest, calling it a peaceful demonstration. IYC National General Secretary Shesh Narayan Ojha said opposing government policies could not be termed "anti-India" and accused the Centre of using police action to suppress dissent. His comments were quoted by news agency ANI.

Delhi Police said the investigation into the AI Impact Summit protest is ongoing.
