Maharashtra Accident: Nine of Family Including Six Killed as Car Plunges Into Well In Nashik

In a tragic incident, nine members of a single family, including six children, lost their lives when their car plunged into a well in Maharashtra's Nashik district late on Friday night.

The incident occurred in the Shivaji Nagar area of Dindori town at around 10 pm, shortly after the family had attended a function at a local banquet hall.

Police said that the Dargode family had travelled from Indore in Dindori taluka to participate in a meeting organised by 'Vadje Classes' at Raje Banquet Hall. On their way home, the driver of their Maruti XL allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and fell into a water-filled roadside well.

Eyewitnesses said a large crowd quickly gathered at the scene. Local authorities, including Tehsildar Mukesh Kamble, Police Inspector Bhagwan Mathure, and Chief Officer Sandeep Chaudhary, arrived promptly with police personnel, the fire brigade, and a disaster management team.

The rescue operation was hampered by the waterlogged well, but with the aid of two cranes, the car was eventually retrieved around midnight.

The victims were identified as Sunil Dattu Dargude (32), his wife Reshma, Asha Anil Dargude (32), and six children-five girls aged between seven and 14, along with an 11-year-old boy.

Their bodies were taken to the government hospital in Dindori for post-mortem examinations.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident.

The tragedy has shocked the local community, highlighting the dangers posed by unsecured roadside wells and the urgent need for improved safety measures in the area.
