Delhi, Noida, Assam On High Alert: Flag Marches Planned To Prevent CAA Unrest

Security measures have been bolstered in northeast Delhi, Shaheen Bagh, Jamia, and other sensitive areas of Delhi following the Central government's notification of rules for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Police officers and paramilitary forces have been deployed in these areas, with planned flag marches in parts of northeast and southeast Delhi. Joy Tirkey, DCP of North East Delhi, emphasized the importance of these arrangements, stating, "We had a meeting of the Aman Committee where we briefed people of both communities. We have tagged the potential troublemakers and some known criminals."

"We are in touch with our beat constables and keeping an eye on social media too. We are doing a flag march for two days and will have an extensive flag march from tomorrow. Special care will be taken in sensitive areas through drones," Tirkey added, emphasizing the police's commitment to the safety of every individual in Delhi's northeast district.

Similarly, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police conducted a flag march in Noida to assure residents of their safety. Joint Commissioner Shivhari Meena stated, "As per the directions given by the CM, we are conducting foot patrolling at populated and sensitive areas."

Security measures have also been intensified in other parts of the country, including Assam, following the Centre's notification on the CAA.

Assam

After the Central government notified the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), opposition parties have strongly criticised the decision, announcing plans for a widespread protest across Assam.

The United Opposition Forum, Assam (UOFA), a coalition of 16 parties leading the movement against the CAA, has declared its intention to call for an Assam bandh immediately after the Act's notification.

Akhil Gogoi, a prominent peasant leader and key figure in the CAA protests in Assam, has compared the Act to a historical assault on the Assamese community, akin to Mughal invasions. He accuses the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of weaponizing the CAA against the state and urges citizens of all backgrounds to prepare for peaceful demonstrations. Gogoi emphasizes the importance of expressing dissent through democratic means, rejecting any form of violence.

He alleges that the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are exploiting the CAA to marginalize the Assamese community.

The Central Government is expected to unveil the regulations for implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act on March 11.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reiterated that the Act does not strip anyone of citizenship, emphasizing its imminent notification before the Lok Sabha elections.
