Delhi Metro’s Big Leap: Blue Line Extension Aims to Link Noida with Ghaziabad Like Never Before
For lakhs of commuters navigating the traffic-clogged roads between Noida and Ghaziabad, relief may finally be on the horizon. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken a decisive step toward reshaping public transport in the National Capital Region (NCR) by proposing an ambitious extension of the Blue Line metro deep into Ghaziabad.
This isn't just another infrastructure update. It's a bold attempt to rewrite the story of daily travel across NCR's eastern stretch.

The Vision: A Smoother Ride Across NCR
The plan? To make Noida and Ghaziabad more connected than ever before. DMRC has approached the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) to secure preliminary approval for preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) that would lay the foundation for a metro expansion involving four new stations on the Blue Line.
These stations are expected to stitch together currently fragmented metro access, offering a unified corridor that could transform commute patterns in NCR's high-density zones.
Mapping the Proposed Corridors
The proposal isn't limited to just one extension. It brings together parts of the Blue, Red, and Pink lines into a broader connectivity web:
- Red Line Expansion: A 3-km addition from New Bus Adda to the Ghaziabad Railway Station, making rail-to-metro transfers seamless.
- Blue Line Phase 1: A 5.1-km elevated stretch linking Noida Sector 62 to Sahibabad, with stations planned at Indirapuram, Shakti Khand, and Vasundhara Sector 5.
- Blue Line Phase 2: Another 4-km stretch from Vaishali to Mohan Nagar, stopping at key points like Prahlad Garhi and Vasundhara Sector 14.
- Pink Line to Red Line Connector: A 12-km corridor from Gokulpuri to Arthala, partly underground, will serve new areas including Hindon Civil Airport and Loni.
Airport Metro Access & A Wider Reach
One of the most notable features of the project is the proposed direct metro link to Hindon Civil Airport. For travelers from Ghaziabad and Noida, this could significantly cut down travel time to the terminal. Meanwhile, the inclusion of Loni in the metro network is expected to ease traffic bottlenecks near the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border and introduce high-capacity public transport to a densely populated area.
What Will It Cost?
Big plans come with big numbers. At an estimated ₹300 crore per kilometer, the total 25-kilometer network is likely to cost around ₹7,500 crore. This puts the project among the most expensive metro expansions in the region's recent history.
Interestingly, a previous corridor proposal from Noida Electronic City to Sahibabad-estimated at ₹1,873 crore-was shelved in 2018 due to budget constraints. The current plan, however, appears to have broader support and greater urgency behind it.
