Delhi Metro increases smart card recharge limit to Rs 2,000 till Dec 31
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to increase the maximum top up limit of its Smart Card by Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 from tomorrow (December 11)
New Delhi, Dec 10: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday said that it has increased the metro smart card recharge limit to Rs 2,000 from Dec 11 till Dec 31.
"The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to increase the maximum top up limit of its Smart Card by Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 from tomorrow (December 11). The increased top up limit will remain effective till Dec 31st only," said the statement issued by the Delhi metro.

According to the Delhi metro, the decision to increase the maximum top up limit has been taken with a view to facilitate the commuters who might come with new currency notes of Rs2,000 to top up their smart cards.
"With the present maximum top up ceiling of Rs 1,000, it would have created problem in the availability of adequate currency notes for passengers and currency to be returned to such passengers, specially in view of shortage of new Rs 500 currency notes," said the statement.
Stating that it was a temporary measure, Delhi Metro said: "It is expected that by that time (December 31), there will be enough currency of various denominations, specially Rs 500, will be available to hand over as change to facilitate transactions for a maximum top up limit of Rs 1,000."
On an average Delhi Metro carries about 27-30 lakh passengers, of which approximately 70 per cent are smart card users.
