Delhi Shame: PhD student of Jawaharlal Nehru University sexually assaulted

New Delhi, Nov 12:  A PhD student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) hurled shocking allegation against a man who has completed his PhD recently from the same university.

The woman accused the research scholar of sexually assaulting her repeatedly on the pretext of marriage. While the victim stays in a hostel of the university, the accused stays in a rented house at the Munirika locality in South Delhi. [Read: LKG kid molested by seniors in school]

The woman called up South Delhi Police on Tuesday, Nov 11 and filed sexual harassment case against the man. Police launched a manhunt to nab the accused who currently is on run.

The woman, who hails from Chandigarh, claimed that she was friendly with accused who hails from Patna, Bihar. After registering the report, police took the girl to AIIMS where she underwent medical check up. [Delhi: Lab assistant molests 7-yr-old girl in a Rohini school]

In her police complaint, the victim informed that the accused used to visit her at hostel room frequently. Gradually, the accused developed physical relations with her. One friend of the accused allegedly had filmed the act on one occasion, stated the complainant.

The accused often took to her to his his Munirika flat and raped her, claimed the woman and added that the accused had threatened her to face dire consequences when she stopped talking to him a few days ago.

Here it can be recalled that Delhi Police recently presented a data which shows that there has been a 43.6 percent increase in Delhi`s crime graph in 2013 over 2012, and crime against women rose a whopping 412 percent in the past year.

Rape cases increased from 680 last year to 1,559 this year and in 96 percent of the cases, the victim was known to the accused. Close to 90 percent of these cases were solved, Delhi Police had said.
