Delhi Government Officer Prematurely Retired over Molestation Charges
A Delhi government officer, currently under suspension for molestation charges, has been prematurely retired from service by the Centre.
In a recent development, AV Prem Nath, an officer of the Delhi government who was under suspension due to molestation charges, has been prematurely retired from service by the Central Government. The decision was communicated on Monday by officials from the Centre. Prem Nath had been working with the Urban Development department of Delhi government at the time he was suspended last year.
Charges and Suspension

Prem Nath's suspension came in response to a case registered against him over allegations of molesting a minor in Uttarakhand. He is part of the 1997 batch officer group hailing from Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli Civil Services (DANICS) cadre. As per reports available till now, there hasn't been any immediate reaction or comment from Prem Nath regarding his premature retirement.
The Ministry's Decision
The order for Prem Nath's retirement was issued by India's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). According to this order shared with the Delhi government, it states that Prem Nath has been retired from service 'in public interest'. This action has been taken as per powers vested upon them by sub-rule 1 of Rule 56j of Fundamental Rules along with Rule 42 of CCS Pension Rules 1965.
This set of rules provides absolute authority to the Centre for retiring any government official prematurely if they are found lacking integrity or proving ineffective in serving public interest. However, it is important to note that these rules have not specifically defined what constitutes lack or absence of integrity; thus providing room for subjective interpretation which can be used both ways - either for ensuring probity in public services or settling personal scores.
Accusations Against Special Secretary Vigilance
In another twist to this tale, Prem Nath had previously accused the special secretary vigilance of the Delhi government. However, details about this particular accusation or how it may have influenced the decision of his premature retirement are yet to be revealed.
In conclusion, this case highlights the complexities and challenges faced in maintaining integrity within public services. It emphasizes on the need for clear guidelines and transparent processes to handle such situations effectively. While it is crucial to take swift action against any misconduct, care must also be taken to ensure that these powers are not misused for personal vendetta or political maneuvering. The balance between power and accountability is a delicate one and needs constant monitoring to maintain probity in public life.
