Delhi Crime: High-Speed Car Drags Police Officer To Death, Arrested; CCTV Footage Goes Viral
In a tragic incident that underscores the growing menace of road rage in Delhi, a 30-year-old police constable, identified as Sandeep, lost his life following a violent altercation on the streets. The appalling event took place in the Nangloi area of the national capital, where Sandeep, while on patrol duty and dressed in civilian clothes, encountered a dangerously driven WagonR.
The vehicle, in an attempt to overtake, ended up colliding with Sandeep's motorcycle, dragging both the bike and the officer approximately 10 meters. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Sandeep succumbed to severe head injuries, leaving behind a devastated family consisting of his mother, wife, and a five-year-old son.

The aftermath of the collision saw the two occupants of the WagonR abandoning the vehicle and fleeing the scene, prompting law enforcement to launch a manhunt for the suspects. The police have since taken custody of the car and filed a murder case related to Sandeep's death.
Eyewitness accounts and a nearby CCTV footage revealed the moment Sandeep gestured to the car driver to reduce speed, only for the vehicle to accelerate and strike him. This incident adds to a disturbing trend of increasing road rage cases within Delhi and its surroundings, which have frequently resulted in serious injuries and fatalities.
Senior police officer Jimmy Chiram detailed the circumstances leading to the fatal encounter. He recounted how Sandeep, while patrolling, signaled a WagonR attempting to overpass him at an alarming speed, possibly leading to a verbal altercation. The situation quickly escalated when the vehicle hit Sandeep's motorcycle from behind, propelling him forward and causing him to collide with another vehicle. Chiram stated, "He suffered serious head injuries." He further described the situation as a clear case of road rage and assured that efforts were underway to apprehend the culprits.
The city has witnessed a troubling spike in road rage incidents, with several cases reported in recent months. For instance, last month, a 32-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was brutally attacked following a minor traffic dispute in Faridabad, resulting in his death. In another shocking occurrence in July, a dispute escalated to the point where a man fired at a couple and their two children on a bike, leading to the death of a 30-year-old woman. These incidents highlight a dangerous pattern of aggressive behavior on the roads, often leading to tragic outcomes.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that one of the individuals involved in Sandeep's death may have ties to the illegal liquor trade, although police are yet to validate these claims. As investigations continue, the police force mourns the loss of one of their own, a tragic casualty in the line of duty due to the reckless actions of others on the road. The community and Sandeep's family are left to grapple with the senseless violence that took away a devoted officer, father, and husband.
