Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Holds High-Level Meeting to Review Master Plan 2041 for Industrial Development

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has organised a significant meeting to assess the long-awaited Master Plan for Delhi 2041. The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) had submitted this draft to the central government in April 2023, but it still awaits approval from the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The meeting aims to address key aspects of the plan.

Delhi CM Reviews Master Plan 2041

The DDA vice-chairman is expected to present a comprehensive overview of the draft to the chief minister and senior officials. This includes department heads from industries, environment, and revenue sectors. The focus will be on industrial development, with plans to develop approximately 1,200 acres across three proposed industrial clusters: Kanjhawla, Ranikhera, and Baprola.

Industrial Clusters and Job Creation

These clusters are intended to attract service sectors like IT, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and research. They are projected to generate numerous jobs in Delhi. Officials mentioned that a global consultancy firm might be involved to finalise the development model under a public-private partnership (PPP) approach.

In a previous meeting on February 28, 2023, Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena, who also chairs the DDA, approved the draft MPD-2041. He emphasised that the plan focuses on inclusive development and sustainability. It includes innovative interventions such as transit-oriented development hubs and land pooling.

Historical Context and Future Vision

The first Master Plan for Delhi was introduced in 1962 under the Delhi Development Act of 1957. These plans are crafted for a 20-year perspective period, offering a comprehensive framework for the city's planned development. The current draft aims to rejuvenate heritage sites and the Yamuna River while regenerating urban areas.

The upcoming meeting will likely delve into these aspects further, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned with the vision for Delhi's future growth. By focusing on both industrial expansion and sustainable practices, the plan seeks to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility.
