Farmer Leaders Obstructing Solution to Delhi Chalo Agitation, Alleges Union Minister V K Singh

Union Minister V K Singh accuses farmer leaders participating in the Delhi Chalo agitation of deliberately impeding efforts to find a solution to their demands, emphasizing the substantial financial support provided to farmers by the government.

In the midst of the ongoing standoff between farmers participating in the Delhi Chalo agitation and the Central government over various demands, Union Minister V K Singh has made a significant allegation. Singh, who holds the portfolios of Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation, asserted that the farmer leaders do not genuinely want to find a solution to the prevailing issues. He highlighted the substantial financial resources allocated to farmers through subsidies and the Pradhan Mantri Swanidhi Yojana, which collectively account for 2.4% of the country's GDP. In contrast, the expenditure on the Indian Army stands at only 1.9% of the GDP, according to Singh, who is also a former Army Chief.

Protesting Farmers Reject Centre's Proposal, Plan to March Towards Delhi

Meanwhile, the protesting farmers, who have been stationed at Shambhu and Khanauri points on Punjab's border with Haryana, have rejected the Centre's proposal to procure pulses, maize, and cotton at MSP by government agencies for five years. They have deemed this proposal as detrimental to their interests and have announced their intention to march towards the national capital on Wednesday.

Union Minister Criticizes West Bengal Government's Handling of Sandeshkhali Situation

Regarding the recent incidents of violence in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali, Singh expressed strong criticism of the state government's failure to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. He asserted that the only solution to this issue lies in the election of a BJP government in the state. Sandeshkhali, located in North 24-Parganas district, has been grappling with tensions as a result of allegations against Trinamool Congress strongman Shajahan Sheikh and his supporters. These allegations include land-grabbing and sexual assault under coercion, leading to Sheikh's absconding since January 5. Two of Sheikh's aides have been arrested in connection with charges of gang rape and attempt to murder.

Singh Defends Agniveer Scheme Amid Opposition Criticism

In response to criticism of the Centre's Agniveer scheme by political opponents, Singh defended the initiative. He attributed the opposition to a lack of understanding of the Army among opposition party leaders. Singh emphasized the benefits of the Agniveer scheme, particularly for young individuals who may have second thoughts about their decision to join the Army and seek an easier exit. He highlighted the opportunity provided by the scheme for these individuals to continue serving the Army if they so desire.

Union Minister V K Singh's allegations regarding the farmer leaders' lack of willingness to find solutions have added a new dimension to the ongoing Delhi Chalo agitation. As the farmers prepare to march towards Delhi, the Centre's efforts to address their demands face further challenges. Additionally, Singh's criticism of the West Bengal government's handling of the Sandeshkhali situation and his defense of the Agniveer scheme have sparked discussions and debates across the country.
