New Delhi, Sep 16: The AAP government has approved formation of 30,000 "Mohallas" for implementing in "principle" spending of 'Swaraj Fund' through the participation of the local people in the national capital.

The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. According to government sources, four-five thousand voters will constitute a Mohalla in all the 70 Assembly constituencies each.

Delhi: AAP govt approves Mohallas for spending Swaraj Fund.
Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) will be the nodal officer for the formation and functioning of Mohallas across the capital.

In February this year, Kejriwal had announced that people of Delhi would form their own budget as part a "new experiment" of his government.

A senior government official said that people will participate by showing their voter ID card and other documents.

"As far as possible residents of similar socio-economic profiles will be part of the same Mohalla. It is proposed to have a total number of around 30,000 Mohallas across Delhi for the implementation of the principle of spending Swaraj Fund strictly through the participation of the local people," a senior government official said.

The official also said that after the experiment of Swaraj Fund in 11 assembly constituencies, the cabinet has decided to implement it across all 70 constituencies as soon as possible.
