Dehradun Youth Arrested for Posting Objectionable Content on Pahalgam Attack and Mazar Demolition

A young man was detained for allegedly posting a controversial message on social media regarding the Pahalgam terror attack and the demolition of a mazar at Government Doon Hospital, Dehradun. The individual reportedly threatened to destroy a temple in a Facebook post and made an offensive comment about the Pahalgam incident, where 26 people were killed by terrorists.

Dehradun Youth Arrested for Objectionable Post

Police have taken Sahil Khan into custody in connection with the case. Khan, who resides in Nehru Colony, Dehradun, is employed as an auto driver. Authorities stated that the mazar was demolished because it was deemed an illegal structure. The city administration carried out the demolition using two JCB excavators on Friday night, with police present to secure the area.

Social Media Monitoring and Legal Disputes

The Uttarakhand Waqf Board, however, argued that the mazar had been standing for 100 years and was legally constructed. The district administration claimed that the manager of the mazar had been notified to provide documentation. However, those involved with its management insisted they never received any such notice.

Police are actively monitoring social media to identify individuals sharing videos of the demolition, which they believe could disrupt social harmony. Officials have warned that strict measures will be taken against those found circulating such content.

Waqf Board's Concerns and Government Response

Shadab Shams, chairman of the Uttarakhand Waqf Board, expressed dissatisfaction with the demolition. He has reached out to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to request an investigation into the incident. Shams stated that only a thorough inquiry can reveal who is at fault.

The chief minister has promised to investigate and take action against anyone found responsible. Shams emphasized that since the property is recorded in Waqf records, the Waqf Board should have been consulted before any action was taken.

Patients at the hospital and their families often visited the mazar to offer chadar, according to Shams. This highlights its significance to those who frequented it for religious purposes.
