Cyclone Dana LIVE Updates: 1 Death In Bengal, Flight Operations Resume In Bhubaneswar, Kolkata

Severe Cyclonic Storm Dana made landfall on the Odisha coast, with wind speeds reaching 120 km per hour, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Friday.

The landfall began shortly after midnight and has completed the process, according to the IMD.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that one person has died in a cyclone-related incident.

On the other hand, the flight operations have resumed in Kolkata and Bhubaneswar airports.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee says, "Some districts affected badly due to cyclone, especially kaccha houses. All DMs, SPs and concerned officials are doing their best. We coordinate with all of them from time to time. 2.16 lakh people evacuated from affected areas to relief camps. I talked to an MLA, he informed me that Kapil Muni Mandir has been affected and faced massive waterlogging. I talked to all MLAs of affected districts."

Flight and train services resumed in Bhubaneswar on Friday morning even though cyclone Dana continued to tear through the Odisha coast since midnight. Biju Patnaik International Airport here resumed its operation with the first flight landing around 9 am, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi told reporters.
