Crucial Cauvery waters verdict: SC likely to pronounce on or before Feb 23

The crucial verdict in the Cauvery Waters disputes case between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu is likely to be pronounced in February.

The verdict is most likely to be pronounced on or before February 23. Justice Amitava Roy who heard the case and reserved orders is due to retire on March 1. Since the the Holi vacations for the Supreme Court starts on February 24, he is likely to pronounce the order on or before February 23.

There is however no set precedent that a judge cannot pronounce the order during the vacations. However taking into the consideration the magnitude of the case and the sensitivities involved, it is likely to be pronounced before the Supreme Court breaks for vacations.
