CRPF Jawan Arrested In Delhi Amid Heightened Pakistan-Linked Spy Probe

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel on charges of leaking sensitive information to Pakistani intelligence officers.

According to an official statement, Moti Ram Jat had been allegedly involved in espionage activities since 2023, supplying Pakistan with classified material concerning national security.

"The accused, Moti Ram Jat, was actively involved in espionage activity and had been sharing classified information related to national security with Pakistan Intelligence Officers (PIOs) since 2023. The agency has further found that he was receiving funds from the PIOs through various conduits," the NIA said in a statement.

He was arrested in Delhi and has since been remanded in NIA custody until 6 June. The agency confirmed that interrogation is ongoing.

"NIA, which had nabbed and arrested Moti Ram from Delhi, is continuing to interrogate the accused, who was remanded to the agency's custody till 6th June by the Special Court at Patiala House Courts," it added.

The arrest follows heightened surveillance by Indian security agencies in the wake of the armed conflict with Pakistan over the Pahalgam terror attack.

In a broader operation, at least 12 individuals have been detained in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh over the past two weeks in connection with alleged espionage activities. Investigators suspect the existence of a spy network linked to Pakistan operating in northern India.

Among those arrested is YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who reportedly maintained contact with a Pakistani Embassy official.

Malhotra's YouTube channel and Instagram page boast 377,000 subscribers and 133,000 followers respectively. She, along with 31-year-old Guzala from Punjab, is accused of having been in communication with Pakistani officer Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known by the alias Danish, who was compelled to leave India earlier this month.

A senior Haryana official informed PTI that an ongoing operation is attempting to determine the full extent of this network, with several YouTube channels now under scrutiny.
