Authorities have filed a criminal case against multiple social media users for allegedly spreading false information about explosives being found in a mosque in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. This misinformation circulated widely on social media, prompting the police to respond decisively. Officials confirmed that the claim was baseless and aimed at misleading the public.

SP City Preeti Singh highlighted that since Tuesday, false claims about explosives at a mosque have been shared online. She noted a similar incident on January 25, when an Instagram channel posted a misleading video with communal undertones. The police took immediate action by issuing a rebuttal and registering a case against the user responsible.

False Claims and Police Response

The misleading video was initially from January 17, showing the Jhansi Municipal Corporation closing shops in Islamganj due to unpaid municipal fees. Singh clarified that this footage had no link to any mosque or explosives. The video was misrepresented to create communal tension, which led to swift police intervention.

On February 10, the same misleading video resurfaced on social media platform X, shared by several accounts without verification. Recognising the potential for unrest, authorities registered an FIR at Premnagar police station under relevant sections. They are taking stringent measures against those responsible for spreading such misinformation.

Singh emphasised that strict action would be taken against individuals spreading misleading content. The police are committed to curbing the spread of false information that could incite communal disharmony. By addressing these incidents promptly, they aim to maintain peace and order in the community.
