Cow vigilantism: SC seeks reply from Rajasthan
The Supreme Court on Friday issued notices to the Rajasthan government on a petition relating to cow vigilantism. Notices were issued to six other states including Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand on the same issue. The SC has sought a reply from these states in three weeks.

A petition had been filed by a Congressman Shehzad Poonawala relating to the 10 cases of violence over alleged cow slaughter. The petition also quoted the incidents in Rajasthan and other states where violence had erupted over the issue. The petitioner said that minorities and Dalits have been targeted by cow vigilante groups. The petitioner alleged that the centre has not done enough to stop the problem.
