The Congress has announced its second list of 26 candidates for the Delhi Assembly elections. This includes Farhad Suri, who will contest against AAP’s Manish Sisodia in Jangpura. The party has now declared 47 candidates for the 70-member assembly. Former AAP MLAs Asim Khan and Devender Sehrawat, who joined Congress recently, have also been given tickets.

Asim Khan will contest from Matia Mahal, while Devender Sehrawat will represent Bijwasan. The Congress has also fielded Satish Luthra from Shakur Basti and Rajesh Lilothia from Seemapuri SC. Other candidates include Haji Mohammad Ishraq Khan from Babarpur and Rajesh Chauhan from Deoli SC. Pradeep Kumar Upmanyu will contest from Delhi Cantt, and Sumit Sharma from Laxmi Nagar.

Congress Candidates and Key Contests

Earlier this month, the Congress released its first list of 21 candidates. Notably, ex-MP Sandeep Dikshit will contest from New Delhi against AAP's Arvind Kejriwal. The party has also fielded its Delhi chief Devender Yadav from Badli and former Delhi minister Haroon Yusuf from Ballimaran. Chaudhary Anil Kumar, ex-Delhi Congress chief, will contest from Patparganj.

Ragini Nayak, a national spokesperson, is set to compete in Wazirpur, while Adarsh Shastri will represent Dwarka. The announcement of the second list followed approval by the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC). This meeting was attended virtually by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi.

CEC Meeting Insights

Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin, Delhi in-charge, shared insights after the CEC meeting. He mentioned that a detailed seat-wise discussion took place during the meeting. "There are many seats that have been cleared by the CEC," he stated. However, some seats remain pending as decisions are still being made.

When asked about prominent seats in Delhi, Nizamuddin emphasised that all 70 seats hold importance for the Congress. "We will try to fight strongly on all seats," he added. The Delhi Assembly elections are anticipated to occur in February next year.

The CEC meeting was held at the AICC headquarters with several members present physically. Alongside Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin and Devender Yadav, other committee members participated in discussions to finalise candidate selections.

The Congress is gearing up for a tough battle in the upcoming elections with its strategic candidate placements across various constituencies. The party aims to make a significant impact in the Delhi Assembly polls with these announcements.
